President Ruto and Deputy Gachagua Act to Address MP Gathoni Muchomba’s Opposition to Finance Bill, 2023

President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua appear to be taking preliminary steps to subdue Githunguri member of parliament Gathoni Wa Muchomba for her opposition to the Finance Bill of 2023.

Unhappy with the lawmaker’s severe criticism of the bill, the two leaders appear to be supporting a competitor.

President Ruto and DP Gachagua, who have accused the former Kiambu Woman Representative of disrespect by allying with the opposition to oppose the Kenya Kwanza government’s agenda, have appointed former Githunguri MP Kago wa Lydia to a government position.

President Ruto and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa made it clear during a farmers’ field day at Githunguri Stadium over the weekend that the government was eager to deal with Ms. Wa Muchomba, who has vowed to continue standing with ordinary Kenyans even if it means losing her seat.

Mr. Kago was among a small group of dignitaries, including Governor Kimani Wamatangi of Kiambu, Senator Karungo Thangwa, Representative Ann Wamuratha, and MP Gabriel Kagombe of Gatundu South, who greeted the President and his deputy at Kanjai Primary School.

Ms. Wa Muchomba, who has put herself on a collision course with the party membership of the UDA due to her opposition to the bill, was not present.

At the stadium, without naming Ms. Wa Muchomba directly, harsh criticism was leveled against her, while Mr. Kago was given a seat close to the President and was recognized by the country’s top leadership.

Mr. Kago, however, stated that he was not attempting to usurp anyone’s position within the President’s inner circle, stating that despite his participation in last year’s Jubilee Party election, he has maintained a positive relationship with the President and his deputy.

“I have always had a good relationship with the President and his vice president, not just under the current regime, but also under the previous one. You are aware that at the time, I was the representative for Githunguri, the president was the country’s second-in-command, and the vice president was my colleague in Parliament as the representative for Mathira.

“In 2017, we were elected on the Jubilee.” Mr. Kago told GossipA2Z yesterday that even though we have maintained a very good relationship since the last election, the DP recently hosted me at his Karen residence. Mr. Kago was the candidate for Jubilee, which is part of the Azimio la Umoja Coalition, during the 2022 elections.

He received 31,727 votes, while the UDA candidate, Ms. Wa Muchomba, received 34,446. During the Githunguri event, the former representative was first recognized by the President and Mr. lchung’wa during the main event, with the Head of State revealing that Mr. Kago operates a dairy farm.

“I have been dairy farming in my home county, but the breeds I used to have were not of high pedigree. However, my good friend, the former Member of Parliament for Githunguri (Kago), has been assisting me in acquiring high-quality breeds for Sh220,000 each. I have purchased 22 cows from him so far, and they are serving me well and producing more milk,” the President said in a well-planned strategy to recognize the former congressman in the meeting.

The President continued by stating that it was dishonest for certain leaders to oppose the Finance Bill, particularly the housing levy proposal, “because they are privileged.”

Insincere

“These citizens assisted you in obtaining employment, but you do not wish to contribute a portion of your salary to the housing project. All opposition MPs, including those who voted against the Bill, are insincere. President Ruto said, “Let’s put an end to the petty politics of the few who oppose this,” and then asked those in attendance if they had sent their MP to oppose the Bill, to which they responded, “No!”

And while speaking at a roadside rally in the town of Githunguri, Mr. Gachagua announced that they would appoint Mr. Kago to a government position.

“We did agree that whenever we have a vacancy in the government, we will share it with the people. As in Githunguri, we will schedule appointments. Do you want us (Kenya Kwanza government) to give your former MP Kago wa Lydia a job? Can everyone who wants us to appoint him to a government position say yes?”Mr. Gachagua inquired.

The response of the crowd was affirmative. Ms. Wa Muchomba has vowed, however, not to be intimidated by those in power and to serve the electorate.

Ms. Wa Muchomba stated, “I sincerely appreciate the support and prayers, and I assure you that I will fulfill my duties as a member of parliament without fear.”
