President, DP pays Sh15million for 1,000 goats at the annual Kimalel goat auction
President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday bought goats worth Sh15 million at the Kimalel Goat Auction and Cultural Festival in Baringo
The President who presided over the event said they would purchase 1,000 of the 3,000 goats that were on sale at the auction for Sh15,000 per goat.
“The DP and I will buy one goat at Sh15,000 but the rest have said they will buy at Sh13,000 and we will allow them that,” Ruto said.
The President said all six Baringo MPs present at the auction bought 20 goats each putting their total expenditure at Sh1,560,000.
Other leaders of higher ranks including Baringo Senator William Cheptumo bought 50 goats each meaning they all spent Sh650,000 at the event.
Others who bought goats at the event included Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and his Co-operatives and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Development counterpart Simon Chelugui who each bought 150 goats at Sh1,950,000.

The President said all the purchases must be done in cash to avert the possible challenge of people writing bouncing cheques.
“Na nikitangaza mnatengeneza pesa mnapeleka pale. Mambo ni mawili, hakuna deni na hakuna cheque. Hatutaki mambo ya kuulizana baadae ati cheque iliruka, tunamalizana hapa hapa,” he said.

Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi bought 150, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot 100, all Baringo MCAs bought 100 goats, and all CEOs present bought 300.
Three PSs including Belio Kipsang of Basic Education bought 50 goats each
Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi and Chamber of Commerce President Erick Rutto bought 100 goats each while Baringo deputy governor Felix Maiyo bought 50 among a host of other leaders.
