Police Summon Yesu wa Tongaren in Bungoma

Francis Kooli, the commander of the Bungoma Police Department, summoned Eliud Wekesa, a.k.a. Yesu wa Tongaren, for questioning on May 10 over allegations of questionable teachings.

Wekesa pleaded with the police not to arrest him, arguing that he had not committed any wrongdoing. He urged the police to concentrate on apprehending lawbreakers.

“I am aware that the police commander who summoned me is a person. I am aware that he desires that we discuss church operations. I’ve visited the DC, OCS, and OCPD offices, but nothing has transpired. I have no other occupation besides preaching the word.”

Since the law punishes those who are on the wrong side, it would be unjust if they arrested me. If you have committed no wrongdoing, why are you being arrested?” he wondered.

An officer with knowledge of the situation claimed that Tongaren’s doctrine compelled a portion of his followers to live at the pastor’s residence rather than return home.

“According to reports, one of your followers did not return home after visiting your location.”

“We also heard about another follower who moved in with you after her husband’s death until the day of his burial. Such conduct will not be tolerated, police stated.

In rebuttal, the self-proclaimed Jesus claimed that his enemies were responsible for spreading the rumors.

“All of these accusations are false. All of you have visited this location numerous times and seen what I do,” Tongaren stated.

This followed the formation of a task force by President William Ruto to review regulations governing religious organizations.

He appointed Reverend Mutava Musyimi, a former member of parliament for the Mbeere South constituency, to lead the task force for six months.

In addition to Bishop Mark Kariuki of Deliverance Church, the task force included Bishop Eli Rop, Archbishop Mauhatia Muhatia, and Judy Thongori.

The task force included Reverend Alphonse Kanga, Faridun Abdalla, Musili Wambua, Joseph Wabwire, Mary Awour Kitegi, Leah Kasera, Nancy Murega, and Wilson Wanyanga.
