Police Rescue 31 from Spiritual Leader’s Home in Nakuru

At least 31 people, including 17 children, were rescued by the police in Nakuru after they were being held captive at the home of a person who is suspected of being the leader of a cult.

A man named Hellen Wanjiru Weri, who was 62 years old, was holding the people captive in his home.

The residence can be found in the Kamwene ‘B’ village. More specifically in the Mugumini sub-location of the Lusiru location of the Kihingo ward.

According to a police report that was filed on April 27. And which Citizen Digital was able to view, an alarm was raised by a woman. Whose daughter had absconded from her new job to go to the residence of Weri.

Rosemary Tuwei, who is 66 years old, went to the police to report that her daughter, Leah Cherono, who is 35 years old, was being held captive at the house because she had refused to report to work as a community health nurse. This was a job that Rosemary Tuwei had secured for her child, who has four children.

Tuwei stated that Cherono was to report to work on April 26. But she declined to travel to the work site alongside her husband.

It was later discovered that she had allegedly been held captive at Weri’s house along with 30 other people. The youngest of whom was only two years old and the oldest of whom was 59 years old.

It is believed that Weri is the leader of an unregistered “church” known as Army Rurwama.

The DCC of the Njoro sub-county. The SCCIO of the Njoro sub-county. The CIPU commander of the Njoro sub-county, and the ASTU Likia-based commander all traveled to the scene.

The people were found to be engaged in fellowship activities, including fasting and prayer. They were rescued, brought to the police station, and eventually released as investigations into the incident get underway.
