Police IG Reveals 14 Items Recovered From Jimi Wanjigi’s Car
Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli requested on Thursday that former Presidential Aspirant Jimi Wanjigi turn over an additional vehicle to any police station.
During a press briefing, Masengeli highlighted that Wanjigi is needed for questioning after several items associated with criminal elements involved in the Nane Nane protests were found in his car.
Masengeli also revealed that the National Police Service (NPS) had intercepted a Toyota Prado TX, suspected of inciting the protests, and discovered 14 items inside. Another vehicle, however, managed to enter Wanjigi’s property before it could be searched.
The items recovered included four teargas canisters, two Motorola devices, seven various phone chargers, and one mobile phone.
Masengeli noted, “Although the organizers of today’s protest did not inform the police beforehand, we deployed sufficient security forces and advised the public to steer clear of potentially volatile areas.”
He added, “Today, we intercepted a Prado model vehicle at Jimi Wanjigi’s Muthaiga residence. We found four teargas canisters, two Motorola devices, seven assorted phone chargers, and one mobile phone inside.”

The Acting IG called on Wanjigi to report to the nearest police station.
Masengeli also mentioned that one officer sustained injuries in a scuffle during the protests, and 174 people were arrested, with 126 taken into custody in Nairobi.
Previously, a team of police officers had been stationed outside Wanjigi’s home, attempting to gain entry but were unsuccessful.
The officers had followed the Prado TX owned by Wanjigi, which had raced to his Muthaiga residence.
Reports earlier suggested that the vehicle had been seen distributing money along Limuru Road.
In response, Wanjigi, who was not home at the time, tweeted that the police were preparing to raid his property.
His son, Maina Wanjigi, responded to the raid, expressing that such events were not unexpected. “It’s not surprising. It’s not the first time we’ve been raided. It seems whenever we pose a threat to them, they opt for a raid,” he said.
