A video of police officers in civilian clothes dragging a street parking attendant at the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) has elicited mixed reactions online.

In the video shared by activist Boniface Mwangi on his X page, police officers were captured assaulting the shirtless man near the Kencom stage

The evidently agonized middle-aged man could be heard helplessly groaning, attracting the attention of passers-by who were forced to stand and watch the saga unfold.

While handcuffed, one of the officers could be seen pulling him while the other officer attempted to push him up.

They then began towing him away on the already wet pavement filled with stagnated flood water.

“You’re killing me,” the man could be heard shouting.

Following the persistent harassment, the man attempted to escape but was quickly tamed by the officers, who continued frustrating him in the full glare of the public.

The sole reason for the man’s arrest was yet to be established, but a section of witnesses claimed he was cornered after stealing a phone.

After noticing the bulging crowd, the officers attempted to scare the crowd away by asking them to focus on their own businesses.

“Hey, go to your jobs,” one of the officers shouted while gesturing at the crowd.

While commenting on the alleged public harassment of the parking attendant, Boniface Mwangi called on Inspector General Japhet Koome, chief police boss, to address the issue.

“Kenya Police brutalizing a street parking attendant. IG, we expect to see a composition explaining why these two police officers are using such brute force on someone who poses no threat to them,” Mwangi, a photojournalist, commented.
