Police Boss: Raila’s Monday Protest Illegal and Prohibited.

Raila stated that nationwide protests will begin on Monday.

The commander of the police force in Nairobi, Adamson Bungei, has deemed the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance’s Monday demonstration illegal.

Speaking to the press on Sunday, Bungei stated that the protest will not be permitted because it does not meet the requirements.

Bungei stated that they had received requests from two groups planning protests on the same day and decided to deny protest permits to none of them.

He stated that Azimio la Umoja and the Nairobi business community had informed them in writing of their intention to stage a protest on Monday.

“We have received two requests that arrived late yesterday and this morning. One was from Azimio la Umoja One Kenya, while the other was from the business community in Nairobi. The two groups planned to hold peaceful demonstrations. But none for public safety have been granted “he said.

Bungei stated that the two groups did not meet the requirements to continue protesting and warned of dire consequences for lawbreakers.

“Anyone who disturbs the peace or breaks the law during the procession will be punished accordingly,” he said.

“The public order act of 2012 is very clear; if a protest does not comply with this order, it is illegal.”

He reassured Kenyans that their safety and that of their possessions are assured.

“We guarantee Kenyans that we will be prepared to protect their lives and property tomorrow.”

Bungei also stated that the State House of Kenya remains off-limits.

He stated that the law is very clear that the State House is a restricted area and that no one, peaceful or otherwise, will be permitted to enter.

“I want to emphasize that certain areas, such as State House, where we have heard that people are planning to invade or visit, are covered by Kenyan law as restricted areas for unauthorized individuals,” he said.
