Police Arrest Polish National With Heroin Worth Ksh 3.2M at JKIA
Friday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended a Polish national at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) with Ksh3.2 million worth of heroin.
In a statement, the agency disclosed that anti-drug agents at JKIA’s terminal 1C apprehended the 37-year-old foreigner moments before he boarded an Egyptian flight destined for Hungary.
According to the agency, the trafficker en route to Budapest has been lodged in police cells pending further processing and prosecution.
The drug, presumed to be heroin, was discovered concealed within the drug trafficker’s luggage.
Margaret Karanja, director of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, issued a stern warning to drug traffickers and dealers, threatening them with the vengeance of the law.
“All those caught up in the ring of traffickers and peddlers will be treated with the severity of the law, despite their roles in the trade,” the agency said.

DCI reiterated that the detention comes at a time when security agencies in the country have launched a crackdown on an illicit drug trafficking syndicate.
According to a report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), there has been an increase in drug trafficking along the coast of Kenya over the years.
UNODC trained 20 officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS) to combat drug trafficking operations on land and at sea.
The report advocated for stronger coordination between the DCI and KCGS to bring about significant changes in the seizure of drugs in Kenya.
“Under the Global Maritime Crime Program, and with continued support from the United States, UNODC will facilitate similar but tailored drug investigation and operational planning courses in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Maputo, Mozambique,” the report said.
