Peter Kaluma & Salasya Shine on Infotrak’s Top 50 MPs

Peter Kaluma, a member of parliament for Mumias East, and Peter Salasya, an MP for Homa Bay Town, have surpassed season politicians to become two of the most effective legislators in the nation.

On Sunday, Infotrak published a list of the 50 most effective members of Parliament in Kenya, which positioned Kaluma at number three, in addition to four other members of parliament.

The quartet consists of Christopher Aseka of Khwisero, Robert Mbui of Kathiani, Gideon Mutemi of Mwingi Central, and John Paul Mwirigi of Igembe South.

In contrast, Salasya was positioned eleventh, sharing positions with Charles Ong’ondo of Kasipul and Omar Mwinyi of Changamwe.

Peter Irungu of Kangema was designated the second-best-performing lawmaker in Kenya, behind Ndindi Nyoro of Kiharu.

The survey, which was carried out from July to September of this year, gathered responses from more than 58,000 individuals, the majority of whom were selected from Nairobi.

“This performance rating is the first of its kind and magnitude in Kenya. It provides Kenyans and other interested stakeholders with robust statistics by ward on the perception of constituency residents over the member of Parliament performance,” read the statement in part.

The Eastern and Central regions achieved the highest performance rating of 56%. Nyanza and Western followed with ratings of 55% each, Rift Valley and Nairobi scored 54%, Coast 53%, and Nairobi 51%, respectively. Only the North Eastern region received a rating below 50%.

Days before this ranking, Busia Senator and longtime human rights activist Okiya Omtatah was dubbed the highest-performing individual in the country by Infotrak with a score of 59 percent.

Kamau Murango of Kirinyaga and Aaron Cheruiyot of Kericho tied for second place with 56% each.

Senators John Methu of Nyandarua and Dan Maanzo of Makueni completed the top five with 52% and 51%, respectively.

However, the survey exclusively included elected leaders, leaving out nominated legislators.
