Pastor Ng’ang’a Claims 700 Women Walked out Of His Church when He Unveiled His Wife: “Hata Ushers”

Pastor James Ng’ang’a, the founder of Neno Evangelism, shared a challenging chapter in his ministry, where his congregation dwindled significantly after introducing his new wife to the church.

Known for his bold and sometimes divisive leadership, the pastor revealed that over 400 women, including key members, left upon learning that he had chosen someone else as his spouse.

The couple tied the knot on June 30, 2012.

Why Pastor Ng’ang’a lost 700 female members

After Pastor Ng’ang’a’s first wife passed away, leaving him widowed, many in his congregation speculated about his next move, especially concerning his personal life.

As a prominent figure with influence, wealth, and spiritual authority, numerous women within the church hoped to become his next wife.

However, when Pastor Ng’ang’a unveiled his new wife during a church service, the reaction was far from the joy he expected.

In a Facebook video, Pastor Ng’ang’a disclosed that around 700 women, including female ushers and other long-serving members, left the church following his marriage announcement.

“When I decided to marry my wife, this church faced a serious issue,” Pastor Ng’ang’a said. “The church was packed. Many women had been coming to me because when you have both anointing and wealth, women approach you. After I introduced my wife, 700 women walked out.”

For many of these women, the realization that Pastor Ng’ang’a had chosen another woman was too much to bear, causing them to leave the church. Some felt betrayed, wondering why he hadn’t chosen them.

Despite the loss of congregants, Pastor Ng’ang’a stayed resolute. Though it was a tough period, he stood by his decision to marry his chosen partner.

He stated that the situation exposed the personal expectations many had, assuming he would marry from within the church.

“I lost 400 people… I told them to go, she’s mine, not God’s,” he explained.

Pastor Ng’ang’a also faced criticism over his wife’s age, with some accusing her of being too young.

Certain congregants believed his wife was too youthful, adding to the controversy. However, Pastor Ng’ang’a remained undeterred, defending his decision and affirming his love.

“They knew my first wife had passed, and they hoped I’d choose them,” Ng’ang’a said. “Even the ushers walked away, wondering why I hadn’t chosen them.”

Impact on the ministry

Losing over 400 members in one instance was a significant setback for Neno Evangelism.

The church saw a drop in attendance after the exodus, but Pastor Ng’ang’a pressed forward, and the ministry has since attracted new members.

This episode reminded Pastor Ng’ang’a of the complexities of being both a spiritual and public figure. Despite the scrutiny of his personal life, his resilience has been instrumental in maintaining his leadership.
