Apostle Ezekiel Odero of New Life Prayer Centre attributes his fortune to church funding, stating that the church owns his vehicles and residences.

Odero, while testifying before the Senate Ad-hoc committee investigating the Shakahola fatalities, listed all church-owned properties, including an international school in Kilifi County.

The evangelist disclosed that the school features an Olympic-standard swimming pool and cutting-edge laboratories that, according to him, are far superior to laboratories found in some Kenyan universities.

Odero also disclosed that the church possesses a contemporary hotel with 24-hour service. He also stated that the hotel was constructed primarily to serve church members.

“A nine and half-acre dam has also been built by church offerings and acts as a source of water for Kilifi residents,” the Pastor revealed.

“I urge the government with humility to come and verify what am saying,” Ezekiel noted.

On the other hand, he explained that the church has presently sponsored over 200 children in secondary schools.

When questioned about his personal wealth, the apostle refuted claims that he purchased personal properties with congregational funds, explaining that he raises chickens to finance his children’s education and other personal endeavors.

“I don’t use church money for personal benefits. I have told my wife and children that nobody will benefit from church money,” he stated.

The Ad-hoc committee led by Senator Danson Mungatana of Tana River is investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of adherents of the controversial Good News International Church minister Paul Mackenzie, who is currently in police custody.

Odero was asked to elucidate his business dealings with Mackenzie before the Committee. The pastor verified to the Senators that he purchased a television station from Mackenzie, denying any additional ties to the controversial minister.

Friday’s hearing was the last public session held by the committee, whose investigation reports will be released on Thursday of the following week.
