Part of Gachagua’s Security Detail Reinstated
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was recently impeached, has had some of his security team restored after raising concerns over his safety last week.
Amid a fierce legal battle to retain his position, Gachagua attended a church service in Kiambu County with an increased security presence.
Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, a close associate of Gachagua, confirmed the update. He urged the government to fully reinstate Gachaguaโs staff, emphasizing that justice should not only be served but also perceived.
Thang’wa, alongside Gachaguaโs few remaining allies, accompanied him to the Kiambu church service. Additional supporters included Cleophas Malala, Senators John Methu (Nyandarua), and Joe Nyutu (Murang’a), gathering at the Saint James ACK Cathedral.
A fresh security team has also been deployed to Gachaguaโs Karen residence to oversee his protection.

This security shift follows a tumultuous week during which Gachagua, following a hospital stay and a Senate hearing, voiced serious grievances.
On October 20, Gachagua gave an impassioned statement outside Karen Hospital, expressing frustration over his security detailโs withdrawal and alleging government interference that prevented him from attending the Mashujaa Day event in Kwale County.
After his impeachment, the DPโs office faced further turmoil as 108 employees were placed on mandatory leave, with some staff reportedly barred from the Harambee House Annex in Nairobi.
During his speech in Kiambu, Gachagua, known for his assertive rhetoric, made pointed remarks directed at the President, signaling a rift between them.
Gachagua stated, โWe forgive, but we donโt forget,โ referencing historical and political grievances and cautioning that time would bring unresolved issues to light.
The ousted DP also highlighted struggling national sectors that have drawn public criticism recently, urging the President to address these challenges.
