Parliamentary Committee Blocks Key Witnesses in Linturi Impeachment Inquiry

The Parliamentary Select Committee investigating the impeachment motion against Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi dismissed the attempt to call key witnesses to testify about the alleged distribution of counterfeit fertilizer.

An insider shared with Gossipa2z.com that two significant witnesses were expected to provide testimony regarding the events, including Agriculture Principal Secretary Kipronoh Ronoh and a businessman.

The decision-making process involved 11 Committee members. Seven members opposed the proposal, while four supported it.

The group opposing the witnesses’ testimonies consisted of members from the Kenya Kwanza administration, such as Samuel Chepkonga (Ainabkoi), Njeri Maina (Kirinyaga Woman Representative), Naomi Wako (Marsabit Woman Representative), George Murungara (Tharaka), Moses Injendi (Malava), and Kassim Tandaza (Matuga).

In contrast, the four members from Azimio who voted in favor of calling the witnesses were Catherine Omanyo (Busia Woman rep), TJ Kajwang (Ruaraka), Robert Mbui (Kathiani), and Yusuf Farah Mohammed (Wajir West).

Rachel Nyamal (Kitutu South), a representative of the Jubilee party, cast a vote against the proposal.

CS Linturi has been actively contesting the impeachment motion brought forward by Bumula MP Jack Wamboka over the last few days.

The CS insisted there was insufficient evidence to support the accusations and requested the Committee to clear his name.

Linturi challenged Wamboka to prove the presence of his official signature on any document authorizing the sale of counterfeit fertilizer.

The Committee plans to submit a report to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on Monday, May 13, detailing its conclusions.

“The CS has not been shown any correspondence he signed for the procurement of the fertilizer,” Linturi’s lawyer Muthomi Thiankolu informed the Committee.
