Oscar Sudi Contemplates Quitting Politics Amid Criticism Over Lavish Donations(Video)
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi announced on Sunday that he is contemplating quitting politics altogether.
In a selfie video he shared, the vocal lawmaker suggested that leaving politics might benefit him since he spends more on politics than on his personal life.
He added that after facing criticism for his generous donations to harambees and churches, he plans to take a 2-year break from such events to reassess.
His statement was a direct response to Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, who questioned the source of the Ksh20 million Sudi donated to a church.
“Khalwale, I am taking a break because of the noise and jealousy from people… I believe we should ban these harambees because many don’t understand the stress and sacrifices we make to gather Harambee money,” he explained.
“I’m even considering quitting politics because I am more active in politics than in my personal life. I am going on leave for about a year or two, and if God helps me clear my thoughts, I will start by supporting the church you (Khalwale) attended.”
Khalwale had earlier advised President William Ruto to scrutinize the wealth sources of his political circle.
He stated that recent protests were not just about the Finance Bill but also due to the blatant display of wealth by politicians.
“Mr. President, to save the lawmakers who voted yes and calm the country, it’s not just about the Finance Bill. Kenyans are angry about the rampant corruption among your cabinet secretaries,” he urged the Head of State.

“Those close to you who have become wealthy in just a year and a half are the issue. Some go to harambees and contribute beyond their means to show off. Mr. President, how can an ordinary MP donate Ksh20 million to one church and gift a brand new car to a bishop at another?”
Khalwale urged the President to investigate how his inner circle acquired their wealth.
“Encourage your MPs to stop flaunting unearned wealth. They are showcasing stolen riches,” he added.
Sudi has faced criticism for his opulent displays at harambees and for traveling across the country in helicopters.
In late May, the lawmaker defended his wealth, stating that he worked hard for it and would spend it as he wished.
He mentioned that he enjoys donating to churches, a trait he adopted from President Ruto, who now has bigger responsibilities at the State House.
“I apologize if I took money from others to donate to the church,” he said.
“I heard people say Sudi has a lot of money, and I ask, ‘Do you want me to be poor?’ I donate to the church because I come from a humble background.”
“If you go to Parliament for tea, I travel for business deals. When you see me going to Tanzania and elsewhere, do you think I go looking for stones?” he questioned.
