Ongata Rongai: Missing Moi University graduate Lydia Tokesi found dead in forest
The body of Lydia Tokesi, a Moi University graduate who had been missing for nine days, was found on Sunday, January 12, in a thicket in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County. The 29-year-old was last seen on January 4, and her body, showing signs of torture, was discovered in Gataka Forest.
After a lengthy search by her family yielded no results, they were alerted to a body believed to be Lydia’s. Detectives found the mutilated body and invited her family to the scene, where they recognized her clothes.
Investigations into Lydia’s disappearance and murder are underway, with a DNA test planned to confirm her identity.
“The body was in terrible condition, making identification difficult. It was missing parts,” Lydia’s brother, Daniel Shikoli, shared. “We’re waiting for the DNA results to confirm if it’s Lydia. Once we know, we can understand what happened.”
Troubled Relationship
The family revealed that Lydia was last seen with her boyfriend, whom she had been dating for over eight years, on January 4. Investigations suggest she lived with him until the day she went missing.
The family claims Lydia had taken out a loan to buy a car for her boyfriend, who used it as a taxi in Nairobi. The car was later found abandoned near Lydia’s parents’ house with bloodstains, raising suspicions about the circumstances of her disappearance. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the boyfriend, who is still missing.

A search of his home in Ongata Rongai yielded key evidence, including a love letter suggesting a troubled relationship, which may have contributed to Lydia’s death.
The family is urging the authorities to speed up the investigation and apprehend the main suspect.
“We urge the DCI to fast-track the process and let us know the truth about what happened,” the family pleaded.
Detectives are actively investigating the crime scene to gather more details and identify those responsible for this brutal murder.
