Omtatah Addresses Calls for Martha Karua and Jeremiah Kioni to be Investigated

Busia Senator Okita Omtatah refuted claims on Saturday that he called for action against the organizers of the Limuru III meeting attended by Mt Kenya leaders.

The Senator identified a statement falsely attributed to his office, stressing that the letter was fraudulent.

The letter falsely claimed that the senator accused NARC party leader Martha Karua, Jubilee party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, National Chairman of the Kikuyu Council of Elders Wachira Wa Kiago, and other members of the Kawmene Kenya Unity Forum of legal violations.

The letter also stated that the meeting’s organizers were encouraging some Kenyans to breach the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Act.

The letter purported that Omtatah viewed the remarks made by the organizers and participants of Limuru III as incitement to hatred, hostility, violence, and ethnic discrimination.

It also stated that such actions constituted an offense under section 62 of the NCIC Act, and violations of Sections 3, 11, and 13 should be investigated based on the inflammatory statements made at the event.

The letter also alleged that Omtatah threatened to pursue legal action if the NCIC didn’t act within 48 hours against the individuals involved.

The Limuru III event took place on May 17 and featured leaders from the Mt Kenya region representing at least 10 counties.

After the meeting, former President Uhuru Kenyatta was appointed as the Mt Kenya political leader. On May 21, Kioni explained that Uhuru was chosen due to the respect he commands in the region.

Kioni noted that while there might be divisions among traditional leaders, Uhuru is widely respected by the people, even though politicians have varying opinions.

Before the meeting, several leaders, including former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, accused Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of planning to disrupt the event.

Some leaders, including those allied with President William Ruto, such as Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah and Nyali MP Mohamed Ali, also opposed the meeting.

Ichung’wah remarked that regional and ethnic politics are outdated and that the country needs politics based on ideology, aiming to unite Kenyans for prosperity.
