Omanyala’s Olympic Gold Dream: Budapest Miss Fuels Ambition
After losing out on a podium finish at the World Championships in Budapest, Africa’s fastest runner Ferdinand Omanyala vowed to perform better at the Olympic Games in France next year.
Omanyala stated on the Citizen TV program Sporty Monday that his seventh-place finish at the World Championships taught him vital lessons.
“Team Omanyala knows what happened I won’t disclose much about it but I want to make sure that doesn’t happen in the Olympics the heats and the semis were totally different because many people have been telling me the Omanyala who ran in the heats semis and final was totally different,” said Omanyala who holds a personal best mark of 9.77 seconds.
Having competed in over 39 competitions during the just-concluded season, the Commonwealth Games champion speculates that fatigue may have affected his performance.

“I ran 39 races before the championship I came down to management the main competition is in the diamond leagues and the continental gold tours but a times we ended up doing races that had no impact everything is a learning experience and the last two seasons have been a learning curve for me,” added Omanyala
With just under a year to the 2024 Paris Olympics, Omanyala says his management is working on a favorable calendar that will prepare him adequately as he targets gold in Paris.
“Next year we are going to focus on more competitive races competing with the most competitive athletes I am number three in the world at the moment there is no way I am going to compete in races that have no athletes who are in the top 20 so next year my main focus will be in the diamond leagues and continental tour because that is where the competition is,” he said.
