Senator Ledama Olekina of Narok has dismissed the significance of the current African Climate Summit, which is being hosted by President William Ruto, arguing that the event organizers should have conducted it in the desert to be consistent with the theme.

In a sly dig at President William Ruto’s administration, which has organized the important summit, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) said the government should have imitated the Burning Man Project, an American company that occasionally hosts events in deserts.

“A Real climate change conference should be held in a DESERT like Burning Man then these talks can stop being talked about nothing!”

The Summit begins on Monday, Sep 4, and concludes on Wednesday, Sep 6.

Olekina claimed he was the first individual to use aerial seeding to plant over twenty million trees in the Mau forest while defending his remarks on the summit.

The summit is the continent’s first climate conference to address issues arising from changing climate patterns.

Over twenty leaders of the state are anticipated to attend.

“I was the first leader to establish over 20 million trees in Kenya’s Mau Forest through aerial seeding five years ago. This is what climate change action is all about, said the lawmaker.

The African Climate Summit will address several critical climate issues impacting the continent and establish a new agenda for the continent’s sustainable development.

The summit is being held under the theme “Driving Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and the World” and is being organized by the African Union Commission and Kenya, which is hosting the event.

The purpose of this summit is to produce a declaration on Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions.

The Africa Climate Summit will also initiate a Call to Action for African Union Member States and supporting partners, as well as cultivate partnerships with the rest of the world to develop sustainable climate change solutions.
