ODM Disputes Fake Raila Odinga Quote About Kenyans Betraying Him
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has strongly dismissed a fake quote that was wrongly linked to its leader, Raila Odinga.
In an official statement issued on Friday, July 4, the party clarified that the remarks circulating online were not made by Raila. The fake quote claimed that Raila had accused Kenyans of betraying him after he agreed to form a broad-based government with President William Ruto. The ODM party responded to the post by saying, “Another fake one,” signaling that the quote was false and misleading.
ODM also pointed out that Raila did not have any public engagements on the day the quote was allegedly made. A quick check on his social media confirmed that his last public activity was on Thursday, when he met with India’s High Commissioner to Kenya.

The ODM leader has been under pressure in recent weeks over his decision to work with President Ruto’s administration. Critics, including other opposition leaders, have accused him of abandoning their joint struggle and aligning himself with the government.

Additionally, Raila has been criticized for supporting the proposed takeover of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by Adani Group, a deal that was later cancelled following public outrage. Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was among those who spoke out against Raila’s stance.
“I’m shocked that Raila Odinga regrets the cancellation,” Kalonzo said in June. “How can any patriotic Kenyan support a deal that puts our key infrastructure at risk?”
Kalonzo added, “Kenya’s airports belong to the people. Our sovereignty is not up for sale. We will not allow such deals to go through under our watch.”
The ODM party has urged the public to ignore fake quotes and rely only on verified sources.
