ODM Accuses Interior PS Omollo of Instigating Kisii and Migori Unrest: “He’s the Master Puppeteer”
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has criticized Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo for the disturbances that occurred in Kisii and Migori on Sunday.
In a statement by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, PS Omollo is accused of orchestrating the incidents by using police to harass ODM supporters.
Sifuna additionally alleged that Omollo was abusing police and state authority, actions he said the party firmly opposed.
“The master puppeteer behind these schemes has been identified as none other than the PS Internal Security Raymond Omollo. The party condemns in the strongest terms, this blatant abuse of police and state power to intimidate our people and prop up regime stooges in our strongholds,” Sifuna stated.
What transpired in Kisii and Migori?
On Sunday, UDA MP Sylvanus Osoro and ODM MP Anthony Kibagendi nearly fought during a fundraiser at a church in Borabu Constituency. Police used tear gas as the incident repeated three times after accusations of poor governance from Kitutu Chache South MP.
ODM calls MPs to account for the disturbances
Before a meeting on Wednesday, May 8, the ODM party had summoned the MPs involved in the disturbances in Migori and Kisii counties for interrupting a burial and a church service.
In an interview, Sifuna denounced the actions and stated that the party would discipline its members. He also called for compulsory training for police to remind them of their responsibilities.
Sifuna noted the importance of this training to refresh police on their roles, criticizing them for being exploited by government officials.
