Nyamira County Gov’t Halts 79 Workers Amid Academic Certificate Probe

The government of Nyamira County has halted the employment of 79 workers who are accused of using counterfeit academic qualifications to secure their jobs.

Additionally, the administration led by Governor Amos Nyaribo has ceased paying salaries to these individuals.

Governor Nyaribo stated that 79 employees were found with forged documents after the county submitted the credentials of 2,821 employees to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) and higher education institutions for verification.

โ€œThe KNEC report revealed alterations in mean grades, subject scores, exam center codes, and even discrepancies in index numbers on certificates. Some certificates contained names that didn’t match the officers’ identities,โ€ explained Nyaribo.

“The departments affected include Health with 24 cases, Finance and Public Service with 13 cases each, Governor’s Office and Lands with 9 cases each, Education and Environment with 3 cases each, and one case each in Gender, Trade, and the Public Service Board.”

Governor Nyaribo mentioned that the salaries of these individuals have been stopped immediately, and further disciplinary and administrative measures will follow.

The cases will also be handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for further investigation and legal action.

The county plans to verify the credentials of more employees in a week, and the Governor warned that action will be taken against those who obtained improper promotions.
