Nuru Okanga Visits Ferdinand Waititu at Industrial Area Prison, Shares New Updates

Former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu is currently serving time at Industrial Area Prison in Nairobi. He was convicted of conflict of interest in a case involving KSh 588 million.

Was Waititu Jailed? How is He Doing Now?

Waititu was found guilty of using a company linked to his family to unlawfully secure tenders from the county government while he was in office. As a result, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison. However, he was also given the option to pay a fine of KSh 52.5 million to secure his release.

Recently, political aspirant Nuru Okanga visited Waititu in prison and shared details about his condition. Speaking to Gossipa2z.comโ€™s senior editor, Okanga confirmed that the former governor is indeed at Industrial Area Prison and is wearing the standard black-and-white striped prison uniform.

“Waititu is at the Industrial Area, and he has the prisonersโ€™ uniform,” Okanga stated.

Okanga explained that while Waititu is trying to adjust to prison life, it has not been easy for him. Shortly after his sentencing, his health took a turn for the worse, and he had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. Though he has since stabilized, Okanga mentioned that Waititu is still dealing with health problems and relies on medication.

“He told me he was in the hospital, given medicine, and is now improving,” Okanga added.

Okanga also claimed that some individuals are trying to interfere with Waitituโ€™s case for their political benefit. He alleged that certain politicians are influencing the legal process against Waititu.

Furthermore, he spoke about what he believes to be selective justice, pointing out that many politicians accused of corruption are still free while Waititu remains behind bars.

“There are many people who have stolen public funds and are still walking free,” Okanga remarked.

He also suggested that Waitituโ€™s political views might have contributed to his downfall. According to Okanga, the former governorโ€™s troubles may be linked to the fact that he did not align with powerful figures in the political scene.

“Politics is what is hurting Waititu,” he claimed.

Recounting his visit, Okanga described the strict security measures at the prison. He said he underwent a thorough search before being allowed to see Waititu, and his phone was taken away during the visit. Despite the challenges, he noted that Waititu is in good spirits as he awaits further legal proceedings.

What Led to Waitituโ€™s Legal Troubles?

Gossipa2z.com previously reported that investigations into Waitituโ€™s case began in 2019 when EACC (Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission) detectives raided his home and that of his co-accused. The case took several years before finally concluding with the verdict on February 12, 2025.

In June 2023, court proceedings were briefly suspended after Waititu collapsed at his home. His lawyer, John Swaka, told the court that Waititu had been admitted to Aga Khan Hospital at the time.

The former governorโ€™s legal battle has been long and complicated, and while he is currently behind bars, his case remains a topic of political discussion.
