NMG’S Joe Ageyo Details Rita Tinina’s Return to Air before Death
In a touching homage, Joe Ageyo, the Editor-in-Chief of Nation Media Group, shared that Rita Tinina, who passed away, was about to have her first appearance on NTV after returning to the media company as an editor in October 2023.
Ageyo clarified that Rita was currently engaged in crafting a unique report, a task that deviated slightly from her previous responsibilities of editing behind the scenes since her return to the Twin Towers.
The editor-in-chief disclosed that the report was anticipated to be completed by the conclusion of the current week.
“This week, Rita was supposed to finalize a special report which would have marked her on-air debut since rejoining NMG in October last year,” explained Ageyo
He expanded on the idea that Rita had volunteered assistance with a project he was currently involved in.
During his reflection on the journalist’s passing, Joe Ageyo mentioned that he and Rita first crossed paths over 23 years ago, which fostered a collaborative partnership spanning various projects.
Ageyo recounted that he reached out to Rita for assistance after securing the position of Managing Editor at KTN, asking her to relocate with him to the new station.
“When I requested to her to come and help me on my mission, she never hesitated, never argued and never bargained for her salary, just get me a good deal’, she said, and a few days later she resigned and came on board. And for the following five years, we did some amazing journalism and even launched a news channel, for which she became a key pillar, “Ageyo noted

Subsequently, he returned to Nation Media Group following his appointment as Editor-in-Chief, where he once more recruited her.
Ageyo reported that he had effectively persuaded Rita to return to Nation Media Group with him and accept the position of editor, a role she had previously turned down.
“In September last year, now back at NMG and in a new role as Editor-in-Chief, I was in the middle of a newsroom reorganization. We needed to collapse all our various newsrooms into one centralized operation and re-orient our journalism in response to changing audience needs. It was clear to me that in every space I needed to have, not just seasoned hands, but dependable professionals who would keep the ship steady at every turn”.
“Once again, I reached out to Rita and for the first time in her career, and after many previous failed attempts, I managed to convince her to take up an editor role”, stated Joe.
Ageyo praised Tinina for her humility and ability to maintain a drama-free life despite her fame in the industry.
