Newly Nominated Cabinet Secretaries to Face Vetting Early Next Year

The National Assembly has announced that approval hearings for newly nominated Cabinet Secretaries will commence early next year.

The notice also includes vetting dates for nominees to ambassadorial and high commissioner positions, as well as members of the Public Service Commission.

Mutahi Kagwe, William Kabogo, and Lee Kinyanjui, nominated for the Ministries of Agriculture, ICT, and Trade, respectively, will be vetted on January 14. Former Health CS Kagweโ€™s session will begin at noon, followed by Kabogo at 3 PM, and Kinyanjui at 5 PM.

Diplomatic nominees, including former Sports CS Ababu Namwamba, tapped to represent Kenya at UNEP in Nairobi, will face the Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations Committee on January 10. The hearings will start with Margaret Ndung’u, nominated as Ghana’s High Commissioner. Andrew Karanja, proposed for the Brazilian mission, and Noor Gabow, heading the new Port-au-Prince, Haiti High Commission, will also be reviewed the same day.

Public Service Commission nominees will meet the Labour Committee on January 9.

All nominees are required to bring their ID cards, academic and professional certificates, and other testimonials. Clearance letters from EACC, KRA, HELB, DCI, the Registrar of Political Parties, and CRB are also mandatory.

The National Assembly has invited public input on the vetting process. Kenyans have until January 3 to submit written affidavits with evidence contesting any nominee’s suitability.

โ€œThe Clerk of the National Assembly invites the public to share any representations, supported by evidence, regarding the candidatesโ€™ suitability for their nominated roles,โ€ read part of the notice from Clerk Samuel Njoroge.
