New Twist as CCTV Shows Plaincloth Police Raiding Arati’s Office

One day following Governor Simba Arati’s submission of a report to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in which he claimed there was a plan to search his residences in Kisii and Nairobi, CCTV footage purportedly captured a group of five undercover officers conducting a raid on his home.

On Tuesday evening, a brief video from the Governor’s office showed officers interacting casually with private security personnel at the location.

The CCTV footage released by the Kisii Governor also showed a private vehicle, which he alleged the officers used to conduct the raid on his office in Lavington, Nairobi.

Nevertheless, as per Arati’s account, he was absent from home at the time of the raid but was alerted by the security personnel.

The surveillance footage then depicted them marching out before departing his Lavington workplace.

Speaking to reporters following the event, Arati suggested that the police officers in question notified the guards that their visit to the office was for a standard inspection.

However, the officers, whose identities were initially undisclosed, attempted to gain entry to his office, prompting the question of what motivated them to sound the alarm.

“I was at the CoG meeting where we were discussing the issue of healthcare workers’ strike. My guard informed me that five police officers had come to my office. They had an altercation with my watchman and they threatened to break into my office,” said Arati.

“When I came, I found them already inside. I came with my lawyer James Orengo. I asked them why they were in my office and they said they were just coming to check the compound,” he added.

Arati dared the law enforcement officers to press charges against him if they had any evidence instead of endangering his life.

“If you feel that I have done something wrong, call me to your offices. I have had this office since 2018 and police have never ‘patrolled’ inside the premises. I have never heard about such,” he insisted.

At the time this was published, the national police service had yet to address Arati’s allegations.
