National Assembly Speaker Announces Committee for Vetting New Cabinet Secretaries

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has announced the formation of a Committee responsible for vetting the newly nominated Cabinet Secretaries.

He mentioned that he will lead the Committee with Uasin Gishu Women Rep Gladys Shollei serving as his deputy.

Shollei’s appointment as Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly qualifies her for this role.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah is also included in the vetting committee.

Other members include Anthony Kimani, Owen Baya Yaa, Robert Mbui, Rahab Mukami, Dido Ali Raso, Gitonga Murugara, David Gikaria, Ferdinand Wanyonyi, Mary Emaase, Rahim Dawood, and Junet Mohammed.

Caleb Amisi, Stephen Mule, Nelson Koech, Abdi Shurie, Naisula Lesuuda, David Pkosing, and Mishi Mboko will also participate in the vetting of the 20 nominees.

Wetangula clarified that the Leader of Minority, Opiyo Wandayi, will not join the vetting process as a committee member due to his nomination to the energy docket.

“Notably, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, who was previously a committee member, will now appear before the Committee for his vetting,” the statement partly read.

Wetangula assured the public that the Committee would conduct a thorough vetting process to ensure only qualified candidates are approved.

“I have urged Committee Members to prepare for comprehensive scrutiny of the candidates, emphasizing adherence to legal frameworks, particularly Chapter 6 of the Constitution concerning leadership and integrity, to ensure the selection of the most qualified candidates,” he added.
