Nairobi Pastor Trades Blows With Congregation Inside Church Over Ksh12.5 Million Tithe
A dispute broke out on March 8th at the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church in Saika West, Nairobi County, when unhappy members clashed with the church leadership.
The argument occurred following the disturbance caused by a group of church members, purportedly aiming to contest the authority of the church elders.
After the meeting was disturbed, a conflict erupted between the elders and the parishioners. Efforts by the preacher to calm the situation proved futile as some of the church members proceeded to physically assault him.
During their rebellion against the church leadership, some members of the congregation alleged that the church hierarchy stubbornly declined to resign to facilitate new board elections.
Amidst the disorderly scrimmage that included the church pastor, many people suffered injuries, leading to extensive damage within the church grounds.
The argument continued for several minutes, leading to three people receiving severe injuries, including one person who experienced significant head trauma.

As per individuals from the congregation who spoke with the media, the conflict intensified following a member’s contribution of Ksh12.5 million as a tithe.
They alleged that the management mishandled the funds by violating the agreed-upon allocation plan.
As per a church member, a portion of the funds was designated for fieldwork, with the rest allocated for internal development purposes.
โThere is some money here that we received, about Ksh12.5 million and this money is supposed to be divided into two categories. A share of it for fieldwork and the other part for church developmentโ claimed a church member.
โ3.77 million was meant for field work but was not utilized in the fieldwork. The money was also used to purchase this building worth 7.5 million. Even to purchase this building they wanted the money to be added,โ the member added.
The church authorities were also alleged to have committed assault, with a member pointing out that a case of assault had been reported at the Molemn police station.
