Nairobi Hospital CEO Reveals Last Moments With Slain Finance Director Erick Maigo
James Nyamongo, the chief executive officer of the Nairobi Hospital, has described his last interaction with accountant Erick Maigo before his body was discovered.
Tuesday on Citizen TV’s Explainer Show, Nyamongo expressed his astonishment over the accountant’s death, which occurred less than 12 hours after their board meeting.
After attending the meeting on September 14, he noted that he learned of his passing on September 15.
“It is very perplexing especially to us because I was the last person on that Thursday which was on 14th… I had interacted with him during our board’s Finance and Investment Committee meeting… We had made a very good presentation I saw one of the ways he has delivered from a professional view.”
“We were to meet the following day but that day never came and it was really disheartening to find out the person I was with 12 hours ago was no more,” said Nyamongo.
Nyamongo further eulogized Maigo as a dependable employee who was honest in his transactions, noting that his death had affected the entire hospital.
“It has been a very difficult moment for the Nairobi Hospital family and also the institution as a whole. We are all saddened by the murder of this gentleman who was one of the best staff I have ever worked with,” said the CEO.

The prime suspect in the murder of Nairobi Hospital director Eric Maigo arrested
He went on: “When I joined Nairobi Hospital this was one of the staffers I recruited. He has been my right-hand person, especially in the institution of Financial matters. I take this opportunity to send my condolences to the entire family of Mr Eric Maigo. As the story unfolds, we are looking to know what was the cause.”
After more than a week on the run, the prime suspect in the murder of Maigo was ultimately apprehended and taken into custody on Tuesday.
On Friday, September 15, the corpse of the doctor, who was also the Finance Director, was discovered with multiple stab wounds.
The autopsy revealed that he had been stabbed over twenty-five times.
Saturday’s autopsy at the Lee Funeral Home revealed that his vital organs had been ripped from his body during the assault.
“We calculated and found he had 25 stab wounds. This caused both external and internal bleeding,” said chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor.
Monday, the first suspect arrested in connection with the homicide was released after police were unable to link him to the crime.
