Nairobi Governor Sakaja Addresses Rift with Gachagua and UDA Leaders
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja spoke on Friday, April 27, about the rumors of increasing tensions between him and the elected officials from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
In an interview with a local media station, Sakaja denied rumors of a conflict between himself and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
He observed that they had a friendly professional relationship and continued to hold respect for the DP.
Sakaja mentioned that it was challenging for them to have conflicts because their political paths and goals were distinct.
“I do not have any differences with him. He is a respected leader who has been in politics for a while. Even though he found us in politics, he has been able to rise through the ranks and he has become the Deputy President and he needs to be respected for that.

“I have never talked ill about him. I do not want to become the Deputy President. He also does not want to become the Nairobi governor,” he stated.
Recently, the governor has come under fire from leaders who are aligned with Gachagua for his performance in his role as county head.
The critique emerged following heavy rains that left parts of Nairobi’s estates flooded.
Sakaja responded by stating that his administration was focused on reducing the impact of the floods. He noted that the flooding was caused by insufficient drainage systems and the overflow of rivers.
“The capacity of the drainage in Nairobi is very small, we have to expand it,” he added
The Kenya Meteorological Department anticipates increased rainfall in Nairobi during the weekend. Areas such as Kilimani and Mathare have been particularly impacted.
The government announced that due to flooding, 64 schools have been cut off and the opening dates will be postponed.
