Nairobi Court Orders Arrest of Ex-Governor Peter Munya in Corruption Case

Former Meru Governor Peter Munya was ordered arrested by a Nairobi anti-corruption court after he failed to appear in court to depose in the Arror and Kimwarer corruption scandal.

The former Minister of Agriculture was commanded to be arrested and brought before the court by Magistrate Eunice Nyutu.

The court initially gave Munya 90 minutes to appear in court to testify, but he did not appear.

Police officers assigned to the Nairobi Area have begun searching for Munya after he failed to appear in court.

Munya, who is under investigation, was ordered to testify in the Ksh63 billion Arror and Kimwaer dam corruption case against former Treasury CS Henry Rotich at 11:15 a.m.

“I command Munya to appear in court by 11:15 a.m. “His arrest warrant remains in effect,” ordered Magistrate Nyutu.

While appearing before the anti-corruption court, the investigation officer Douglas Chege revealed that DCI officials were unable to execute the previous arrest warrant because Munya could not be located.

However, Munya’s Attorney defended the former Cabinet Secretary by pointing out that he was not in concealment, as the State had claimed.

In response, Magistrate Nyutu denied Munya’s request and ordered the police to carry out the arrest warrant as required.

The Arror and Kimwarer dams were supposed to be completed in 2017, but their construction has not yet begun due to allegations of corruption during the bidding process.

In 2020, the High Court ordered the prosecution of high-ranking government officials, including former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, for their involvement in the scandal.
