Mutahi Ngunyi: Ruto Set for Landslide Victory in 2027 Without Kikuyu Vote
Prominent political analyst Prof. Mutahi Ngunyi has forecasted that President William Ruto will easily secure a second term in office during the 2027 elections, even without the crucial backing of the Mt. Kenya region, which has been a key player in Kenyan politics for many years.
Ngunyi shared his insights in a post on social media on Thursday, where he discussed the dynamics of Kenya’s political landscape and how they could shape the upcoming elections.
According to Prof. Ngunyi, the Kikuyu community, which is often seen as central to Kenyan politics due to its large numbers and historical influence, makes up about 30% of the country’s total population.
He highlighted that, despite this significant portion of the electorate, President Ruto could still secure re-election by rallying the support of the remaining 70% of Kenyans.
This indicates that the political balance is shifting and that regional support from areas outside of Mt. Kenya could play a much larger role in the upcoming election compared to previous years.
The analyst further went on to discuss the history of political dominance by the Kikuyu community, which has long held significant sway over the country’s political affairs.
Ngunyi noted that the Kikuyu have produced three out of the five presidents Kenya has had since gaining independence in 1963.

Additionally, the Kikuyu community has maintained a strong grip on the position of Deputy President, a powerful role that has been held by members of the community for several decades. Ngunyi argued that this long-standing dominance might come to an end under President Ruto’s leadership.
He emphasized that if President Ruto were to win re-election without the support of the Kikuyu, it would signify a monumental shift in Kenya’s political power dynamics.
This would not only mark a victory for Ruto personally but also signal the decline of the Kikuyu’s overwhelming influence over Kenyan politics.
According to Ngunyi, this change could open the door for a more inclusive political environment where other communities in Kenya would have greater representation in the country’s leadership.
In conclusion, Prof. Ngunyi’s prediction that President Ruto will win in 2027 even without Mt. Kenya’s backing highlights the evolving nature of Kenyan politics and the possibility of new political alliances and power structures.
His statement indicates that the political game is no longer solely reliant on the Kikuyu community’s support and that other regions could increasingly play a decisive role in determining the outcome of future elections.
