Mutahi Kagwe Reveals Net Worth of Ksh842 Million During Agriculture CS Vetting
Mutahi Kagwe, who has been nominated for the position of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, has revealed that his total net worth is Ksh842 million.
This was disclosed during his vetting by Parliament on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. In his statement, Kagwe explained that he had managed to accumulate his wealth over many years through smart investments in various sectors, including real estate.
According to Kagwe, a large portion of his fortune is tied up in assets such as real estate and pieces of land that he has acquired in different parts of the country.
He specifically pointed out that most of his wealth comes from his investments in land and property that he has bought and held onto over the years. “I am worth Ksh842 million. Essentially, my wealth is in assets, real estate, and pieces of land I have accumulated over the years,” he stated during his vetting session.
One of the key highlights of Kagwe’s financial journey is his impressive growth in net worth. From 2020 to 2024, Kagwe’s wealth has grown by Ksh174.2 million.
This increase reflects his continued success in building and maintaining his assets. When he was nominated for the Health Cabinet Secretary position in 2020, Kagwe revealed his net worth as Ksh667.8 million.
During that time, he explained that his wealth had been built from years of hard work and dedication. He emphasized that his success did not come overnight, as he had started his journey of financial growth while still a student at the University of Nairobi.

“I am worth what I am worth due to my hard work. I started doing feasibility studies in my room at Hall 2 at the University of Nairobi, and for over 40 years, I must have made some money,” he explained.
If Kagwe is confirmed for the Agriculture CS role, he will become one of the wealthiest individuals in President William Ruto’s Cabinet. Currently, the wealthiest members of the Cabinet include Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi, who is valued at Ksh4 billion, and Mining CS Hassan Joho, whose net worth is Ksh2.3 billion.
These figures set a high financial standard for Cabinet members, and if approved, Kagwe will join this elite group.
