Museveni Dispels ICU Rumors, Delivers Health Update with Sharp Critique for Kenyans

On Tuesday, June 13, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni called out a section of Kenyans whom he claimed spread false and misleading reports on his health status. He made this statement during a press conference.

Reports that stated Museveni had been admitted to an intensive care unit and was receiving oxygen support reportedly irritated him.

As a result, he disproved the rumors that he was in a critical condition by pointing out that he was making a full recovery from Covid-19.

“I noticed that a few people from what I believe to be Kenya were saying that I was in the intensive care unit. If I were to end up in intensive care, the government would let the country know. What exactly are you trying to hide? Museveni wondered.

Museveni explained that there was never a time when he required intensive care while he was battling the virus and that this was true at all times.

He made the observation, “I have not been to bed as a sick man in this house here except for sleeping, let alone being in a hospital bed, whether in the intensive care unit or otherwise.”

The President commented on his improvement by saying, “Except for Tuesday and Wednesday when there was a mild flu-like fever, I only had some drowsiness on Thursday and a mild headache at night.”

On Friday, June 9, Museveni observed that he was no longer experiencing any of the symptoms, and he went back to his paperwork.

Museveni provided this update a day after Kenyan Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Health Susan Nakhumicha spoke out against reports that claimed COVID-19 had already broken out in Kenya.

According to the surveillance reports, the country was safe, contrary to the reports that were giving the wrong impression. Nakhumicha added this information.

She made the following statement: “From our surveillance, we do not have an upsurge of Covid yet that we can report to the country and tell them to take corrective action,”

The customer service representative (CS) explained that the increased incidence of flu-like symptoms was not due to the Coronavirus but rather to the cold season.
She recommended that Kenyans get flu shots, practice good hygiene, and wear masks.
