Musalia Mudavadi Lists Reasons Why ANC Will Merge With UDA
The Amani National Congress (ANC) has rolled out advanced plans to merge with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, signaling a strategic shift for the 2027 elections.
Senior leaders within the ANC, including former party leader and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, have stressed the need to adapt to the evolving political landscape.
“When we initiated discussions on the merger, I mentioned that our coalition is built on three parties: UDA, ANC, and Ford Kenya,” Mudavadi stated.
Mudavadi explained that the merger aims to help the party navigate the dynamic political field leading up to the 2027 elections.
“As we approach 2027, the political environment will differ from that of 2022. Even before reaching 2027, we see changes in the political landscape. It won’t remain the same,” Mudavadi noted.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary emphasized that to maintain negotiating power in the 2027 political landscape, the party must evolve into different formations and collaborate with strong teams.
“We need to look ahead because the negotiating framework in 2027 will be different. I urge everyone to support the president; it is the right move for the country,” he emphasized.
ANC Party Leader and Lamu Governor Issa Timamy shared details of a recent meeting where party members and leaders discussed the merger plans.
“We invited Musalia Mudavadi as the guest of honor. All elected party members and leaders attended the meeting,” Timamy stated.
“The purpose of our meeting was to involve our leaders in the plan to merge with UDA led by President William Ruto. We have successfully reached a consensus to merge with UDA. As the party leader, I will head the task force to meet with the UDA team for merger talks,” Timamy announced.

Timamy also assured that the merger decision was made collectively and voluntarily.
“We have met all constitutional requirements, and the next step is discussions with the UDA team. No one was forced to support this decision; it is a collective move to support the President in developing the country,” he added.
Beatrice Adagala, Deputy Party Leader of ANC, expressed the enthusiasm of the ANC women’s movement for the merger.
“On behalf of the ANC women, we are excited about merging with UDA. Our movement aims to elevate to the next level post-merger, enabling His Excellency William Ruto to lead for another five years, making it ten by 2027. We fully support this move and believe Kenya is one,” Adagala declared.
Omboko Milemba, Secretary General of ANC and Emuhaya MP echoed these sentiments, highlighting the party’s unified direction.
“We have gathered as party leaders and elected members, including our former party leader, to discuss the merger. We had a productive session and agreed this is the path to unite Kenya,” Milemba stated.
President William Ruto and Musalia Mudavadi joined forces on January 23, 2022, during the renowned earthquake event, pledging to work together and include National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and his political entity, Ford Kenya.
