On Wednesday, a photograph of former IEBC Commissioner Abdi Guliye at an event at Statehouse Nakuru continued to raise eyebrows as Kenyans speculated about his new role.

In the photographs shared by President William Ruto on his official page on Wednesday, Guliye can be seen seated at the event alongside other guests and government officials.

The meeting drew together participants from the dairy industry.

“At State House, Nakuru, engaged milk processors, captains of milk industry and farmers on the transformation of the dairy sector to enhance competitiveness and expand value-added opportunities,” Ruto said in the post.

Cabinet Secretaries Mithika Linturi (Agriculture) and Rebecca Miano (Trade), Governor Susan Kihika, and New KCC managing director Nixon Sigey were present, along with a large number of MPs and other dignitaries.

While it remains unclear what role the former official has been allocated, his presence at the State House meeting has sparked an online discussion, with some commenters alleging that he is now employed by the White House.

A user on X identified as Gabriel Oguda claims in a post that “The President of the Republic of Kenya held a meeting with stakeholders in the dairy industry…no prizes for guessing the guy to your far left in the front row.”

MCA Kileleshwa Rapidly responding, Robert Alai asserted, “Confirmed. Guliye is now employed at Statehouse.”

Another X user, Ahmed Dugal, claimed that Guliye was representing the pastoralists to justify his presence.

“The camel dairy farmers…our camels too have milk,” he wrote.

Guliye and Boya Molu are the only two commissioners who validated Ruto’s victory while others “refused to participate in the final tallying process.”

During the meeting, Ruto stated that the dairy industry is an integral part of our economy, but that its full potential remains largely unrealized due to a variety of obstacles, such as inadequate value chain coordination.

He said they agreed that the government would distribute the 650 coolers to farmers through cooperative societies who will be linked to processors in our new plan to enhance the quantity, quality, and price of milk.

“The adoption of game-changing approaches will rebuild the enterprise, spur production of quality milk, and multiply the exports of processed dairy products,” he said.
