Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen is again on the receiving end of backlash from Kenyans after one student lost his life in Kisumu on Monday, April 1.

The road accident involving an Easy Coach bus carrying students from Chavakali Boys High School when it overturned at Mamboleo in Kisumu County left one dead and others with severe injuries.

Additionally, the CS was asked to weed out rogue officers from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) who are harassing drivers and collecting bribes to allow unroadworthy vehicles to operate.

Per a section of Kenyans, Murkomen should not continue holding office if the road accidents continue to escalate. They also called upon President William Ruto to act promptly and put capable individuals in the docket in question.

Since the year began, over 40 people have lost their lives to gruesome road accidents including 11 university students from Kenyatta University.

Murkomen had announced new measures including reintroducing NTSA back on the roads and retesting all drivers among others. A proposal has also been fronted to put an age limit to those who can have a driver’s license.
