Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Friday made an impromptu visit to National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) headquarters in Upperhill, Nairobi, to probe the delays in the printing of Driving Licenses (DLs), logbooks and digital number plates.

A source at the Authority confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that the CS found several Kenyans queueing for services.

One of the motorists who were in the queue approached Murkomen and informed him of the situation at the NTSA offices, complaining that users were not receiving prompt service.

He complained that he had received a text message from NTSA informing him to collect the Digital Number Plate but upon arrival, he was told that it was not ready.

The motorist added that he had received the same instructions two weeks before and was not able to collect the digital number plate.

“We cannot continue working like this,” he said while showing Murkomen the old number plate that he had kept in his bag.

Several motorists have in the past voiced their frustrations over delayed services at NTSA offices, some taking to social media to air their concerns.

The issues range from a lack of response from NTSA on queries as well as delays in driver’s licenses and second-generation number plate collection.

Cabinet Secretaries have been making impromptu services as complaints about poor government services increase.

Recently, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki made four visits to the Immigration Offices to probe the issue of passport processing delays.

While Kindiki maintains that the issue has been resolved, Kenyans continue to complain of delays.

On Thursday, the ministry noted that 87,574 passports are ready for collection.
