Murkomen Sends Stern Warning to Gachagua Ahead of Arrival from US

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has warned politicians, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, not to interfere with the African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarter-final clash between Harambee Stars and Madagascar set for Friday at Kasarani Stadium.

Speaking in Murangโ€™a on Tuesday, August 19, Murkomen assured Kenyans that the National Police Service will tighten security to prevent any disruptions during the highly anticipated match.

โ€œI want to thank the police for securing Kasarani on Sunday in line with CAF rules. On Friday we expect an even bigger match, and I want to assure Kenyans that the same level of security will be provided,โ€ said Murkomen.

He firmly cautioned political leaders both locally and abroad against attempting to interfere with the game, stressing that peace must prevail.

Murkomen also encouraged Kenyans to continue rallying behind Harambee Stars, adding that the government is waiting for CAF guidelines to finalize security arrangements for a smooth event.

โ€œWe are waiting for CAF directions, and once they come, we ask Kenyans to support Harambee Stars, respect the rules, and enjoy a seamless match,โ€ he noted.

Meanwhile, the Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua is expected back in the country on Thursday, August 21, after a trip to the United States.

DCP deputy leader Cleophas Malala announced that thousands of supporters will gather at JKIA from 8am to welcome Gachagua. He revealed that Gachagua will then lead what he called the โ€œmother of all peaceful processionsโ€ from the airport to the Nairobi CBD before addressing a rally at Kamukunji Grounds.

Malala said the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, had already been notified and urged police not to block the event but instead provide security.

He further warned the government against arresting Gachagua upon arrival, claiming such a move could spark protests and affect the CHAN tournament.

โ€œIf you arrest Rigathi Gachagua, the following day there will be demonstrations, and with Harambee Stars playing on Friday, it will be impossible to enjoy the quarter-final match,โ€ Malala warned.
