Murathe and Kioni Disclose Plans to Dislodge Ruto From Presidency

The faction within the Jubilee Party linked to ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta has disclosed that President William Ruto does not intend to support his deputy Rigathi Gachagua’s political aspirations. Instead, Ruto is allegedly working against Gachagua while covertly undermining the country’s second-in-command behind closed doors.

Addressing an assembly in Lamu Party on Saturday, Vice Chairman David Murathe asserted that the most evident sign of Ruto and Gachagua’s divergence in perspectives is the President’s decision to nominate prominent Jubilee Party figures like former Chairman Nelson Dzuya to the Non-Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Board.

Murathe also alleged that Ruto has become more receptive to East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega and nominated MP Sabina Chege in an attempt to prevent them from forming political alliances with DP Gachagua. Murathe identified this as one of the tactics Ruto is using.

According to Murathe, the reasoning behind this is to stop Gachagua from forming his party.

“Ruto is clever, he knows the law, and he is looking for ways to get rid of the officials because they started aligning themselves politically with DP Gachagua like Kanini and Sabina. Ruto cannot let DP Gachagua form his own party. So he is cutting him down to size,” claimed Murathe.

Murathe, a trusted associate of Uhuru, further elaborated that the United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) intention to appoint two additional deputy leaders alongside Gachagua is aimed at restricting the authority of the deputy president.

“You have heard the attempts to have 3 deputy party leaders including installing Mudavadi, Wetangula, and Rigathi. That is why you have heard Mt Kenya protesting because they insist the party only has 1 deputy party leader, Rigathi. When a person wants to trim your influence, they don’t tell you directly. The union is already finished, ” Murathe further claimed.

Murathe additionally issued a caution to Azimio leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka, indicating that he would consider running for the presidency if they failed to present a clear strategy to unseat Ruto.

“Let them declare it, even Kioni here and myself have what it takes to run for the top seat,” charged Murathe.

Ditching UDA

Addressing the identical gathering, Jeremiah Kioni, the embattled Secretary General of the Jubilee Party, asserted that President Ruto intends to abandon the UDA party and contest the 2027 elections under a different political affiliation.

“William Ruto will not run on UDA, he will seek an alternative political party to run in 2027. So if you have become comfortable thinking that all is well, you are in for a rude shock,” Kioni remarked.

“Ruto will be a one-term president, he will not win in 2027, so if you don’t know where home is, ask those who are informed,“ stated Kioni.

Kioni expressed disapproval of President Ruto regarding various issues such as his frequent international travels, inclination towards accumulating debt, and the enactment of harsh legislative proposals by UDA Members of Parliament.

“I have heard that he is currently in Djibouti. That is the 44th country he is visiting. I have also heard that Musalia is in London to celebrate Kenya’s 60th anniversary, he can’t celebrate in Kenya. They have become like tourists, Kenya has become like a stopover for them,“ he stated.

Kioni raised doubts about Ruto’s criticism of Uhuru for borrowing, pointing out that Ruto had also pursued a similar path, resulting in the country accumulating a debt exceeding Ksh4 trillion in a relatively brief timeframe.

Kioni contended that Uhuru was in a more advantageous position because he could reference several infrastructure initiatives he had initiated.
