Ex-MP Mukhisa Kituyi criticized President William for dismissing the demands of the striking doctors, who are asking for the reinstatement of a monthly stipend of KSh 206,000 for intern doctors.

What Mukhisa Kituyi said about striking doctors

In his speech at journalist Michael Oyier’s requiem mass in Nairobi on Wednesday, May 1, Kituyi expressed sadness over the fact that individuals opposing the doctors’ demands have lesser academic qualifications.

He additionally requested that religious leaders pray for the president and his team to be more open to the doctors’ demands.

“I beseech religious leaders to pray to those who have the hearts of stone, that they listen and show empathy with young doctors who have legitimate concerns and are being rubbished by people with much worse education than those doctors,” Kituyi said.

What did William Ruto say about the doctors’ strike?

In his speech at the Labour Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, Ruto mentioned that the government has fulfilled 17 out of the 19 requests made by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU).

“Out of the 19 issues, the government has agreed to 17; two remain pending because it’s not feasible due to lack of funds. We’re asking our doctors to return to work, and we’ll address the remaining issues. We’ll strengthen the economy, and everyone will get their fair share,” Ruto said.

Ruto urged the doctors to return to work, assuring them that the government would take care of the remaining requests.

What Davji Atellah said about Labour Day?

KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah, however, said doctors have nothing to celebrate on Labour Day as the government has not met their demand.

The government has maintained giving intern doctors KSh 70,000.

He further accused the government of failing to honor the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) of 2017.
