MP Wields Gun Amidst Hotel Protest Raid
On Wednesday, July 19, Nakuru Town MP Samuel Arama was forced to draw his gun on protestors when an agitated throng vandalized his hotel.
Protesters began pelting stones at the multiple-story hotel in Rhonda Ward, Nakuru, causing damage to glass in the process, displaying the MP’s irritation and palpable fury.
The legislator emphasized that destroying property was unacceptable and urged protesters to demonstrate peacefully.
The protestors, however, were outraged by the MP’s use of force and his decision to brandish his firearm on them despite having backed him to the death in the 2022 general election.
“We are all Kenyans; we voted for Raila, but he was defeated by William Ruto.” He questioned why these guys damaging property should not be shot.
The marchers, on the other hand, denied vandalizing any property in the neighborhood and requested authorities to provide security to protestors exercising their democratic right to picket.

Residents were seen surrounding the MP’s parked vehicle in the street in a viral video.
In a statement, the Muslim for Human Rights (MUHURI) denounced the MP’s actions, saying he posed a risk to public safety.
“We strongly urge the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and relevant authorities to treat this matter with the utmost urgency and thoroughness.” Failure to respond quickly will erode public trust and confidence in our democratic institutions,” according to a portion of the statement.
The event occurred on the first day of the Azimio coalition’s three-day demonstrations.
President William Ruto accused opposition leader Raila Odinga of being a saboteur for abandoning the bipartisan discussions and instead bringing the ‘talks’ to the streets.

Anyone wishing to own a firearm in Kenya must follow the procedures outlined in the Firearms Act. Interested parties must apply at their local police station, stating why they need a gun.

The application takes roughly three months to process. For the official certificate, applicants must pay a nominal cost.
