MP Salasya Vows To Vie For Gubernatorial Seat As Ex-Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong ditches Raila for Ruto

Peter Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East, has declared his intention to run for the position of governor in the upcoming 2027 General Election.

On Sunday, the lawmaker announced on social media that he has firmly resolved to run in the upcoming elections, emphasizing that his decisive choice is now confirmed.

“It’s now official I will be vying for Governor,” he wrote.

In the 2022 General Election, Salasya emerged victorious in securing the parliamentary seat as a member of the Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-K), a political party headed by the former Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.

The newly elected Member of Parliament has found himself embroiled in several controversies due to his actions in the public sphere, leading to criticism.

Salasya was taken into custody on January 13 on charges of assaulting Peter Indimuli, the MCA for Malaha-Isongo-Makunga, during a funeral in Kakamega County.

Salsya, accused of assault, inflicting bodily harm, and engaging in behavior that could disrupt the peace, was released on a bail of Ksh.50,000 after being arrested.

He received a summons from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to provide a statement regarding the incident.

Ex-Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong ditches Raila for Ruto

Sospeter Ojaamong, the ex-governor of Busia, is now a member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Ojaamong announced this statement in the presence of President William Ruto at Machakus Primary School.

Ruto is currently present in Teso to participate in a cross-denominational prayer gathering, inaugurate various development initiatives, and subsequently deliver speeches at rallies in both Malaba town and Angurai.

During the announcement, Ojaamong stated that opting to work within the government is a superior choice compared to any decision a leader could make.

“From today I’ve joined UDA and I expect to be in government fully,” Ojaamong said.

“The best way to get better development projects is by supporting the government.”

Ojaamong has consistently been a dedicated member of the ODM party and a strong supporter of ODM leader Raila Odinga. He served two terms as the Amagoro MP before being elected as governor for an additional two terms.

While engaged in elective politics, he held a lifelong membership until just two weeks ago when he suggested the possibility of aligning with UDA.

Ababu Namwamba praised Ojaamong for his choice to withdraw from the ODM party in the field of sports.

“Your Excellency Ojaamong has made a good decision. Let’s support him as he joins the UDA house,” Ababu said.

The ex-governor announced his decision to a supportive audience, receiving applause from residents who seemed to approve of his choice.
