MP Salasya Gets New Parliamentary Role Day After Ouster
On Wednesday, Peter Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East, announced his intention to become a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the National Assembly.
The decision follows the removal of the lawmaker from the Departmental Committee of Regional Development, with Rongo Sub County MP Paul Abuor taking over the position.
Salasya stated that the decision to involve him in the Public Accounts Committee was made following discussions with Junet Mohamed, the Minority Whip.
“Thank you my brother Caleb Amisi for being Kofi Annan and uniting me with Mohamed Junet. It was to smoke but fortunately, we agreed that I, Peter Salasya Ezemo will be in the Public Accounts Committee,” the MP stated.
The MP, who sparked controversy, had previously alleged that Junet Mohamed played a role in orchestrating his removal from the Regional Development Committee.
Salasya stated that he was removed from the Regional Development Committee without prior consultation.

On March 5, Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula, declared the substitution of Peter Salasya in the Departmental Committee of Regional Development, a decision supported by most lawmakers.
“Further to the resolution of the house of Tuesday, October 27, 2022, appointing members into the various committees and according to the provisions of standing order 173, this house further approves the appointment of Paul Abuor MP to replace Peter Kalerwa Salasya MP in the Departmental Committee of Regional Development,” read Moses Wetangula.
Just before the announcement, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah expressed concern about certain lawmakers not taking part in their assigned committees.
The Majority Leader urged a reassessment of Members of Parliament to assess their involvement in the committees they are assigned to.
“Immediately after the recess, the Selections Committee shall be sitting to reevaluate the performance of members in committees,” Ichung’wah stated.
“We are reevaluating your active participation in committees since we are almost mid-term and we evaluate who is keen on their varied committees,” he added.
