MP Omanyo Alleges She Was Offered Ksh3M Bribe to Save Linturi: Shocking Revelation
Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo has alleged that she was approached with an offer of a bribe to influence her stance on the impeachment proceedings against Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi.
Omanyo disclosed during an interview with Citizen TV that several committee members tasked with adjudicating Linturi’s case were approached with bribes aimed at swaying their decision in favor of the Cabinet Secretary.
According to Omanyo, she was approached with an initial offer of Ksh.2 million, which was later increased to Ksh.3 million, emphasizing the pressure due to the significance of the case against Linturi. She further stated that attempts were made to solicit her preferences to favor Linturi.
Detailing the tense atmosphere within the committee, Omanyo revealed that while some members succumbed to bribery attempts, others stood firm and refused to compromise their integrity. She described instances where tensions escalated to the point of almost turning physical, necessitating breaks to cool down before resuming proceedings.

Omanyo emphasized the gravity of the allegations against Linturi, asserting that the evidence against him regarding the fake fertilizer scandal was compelling, leaving no room for him to evade accountability.
Despite facing impeachment proceedings, Linturi managed to retain his position with seven out of the 11 committee members voting in his favor. This outcome drew criticism from opposition MPs who alleged bribery among committee members to secure Linturi’s exoneration.
Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo echoed concerns of corruption within the committee, urging referral of the matter to the powers and privileges committee to investigate potential misconduct that could invalidate the report.
Speaker Moses Wetangula dismissed accusations against committee members, stating that impugning their integrity without concrete evidence was unjustifiable.
Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi condemned the committee’s decision, viewing it as overriding the will of the majority in Parliament. He called for Parliament to withhold recognition of Linturi as Agriculture Minister until President Ruto takes action and dismisses him from office.
