MP Nimrod Mbai Sparks Controversy: Accused of Assaulting KPLC Employee

Nimrod Mbai, the current Member of Parliament for Kitui East Constituency, was trending on social media on Tuesday, July 4, after he allegedly assaulted a Kenya Power (KPLC) employee.

The visibly irritated Mbai accused the workers of illegally entering his Kajiado farm and removing installed electrical polls.
In the disturbing incident, the member of parliament was caught on camera strangling the employee by the neck and repeatedly punching him in the face.

As he begged for mercy, the employee of KPLC was on the verge of falling to the ground as he desperately clung to the railing.

Mbai was even more enraged by the workers’ persistent disobedience when he ordered them to direct their driver to rush to the location of the altercation.

“According to a directive issued by President William Ruto, no one is permitted to remove already-installed electrical wires if they discover already-installed power.

Mbai, a member of the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security, instructed the worker to simply install a meter.

The Member of Parliament for Kitui East was accused of assaulting the Kenya Power officer at his home in Kitengela, citing constant harassment by the power distributor over an unauthorized connection.

Mbai wondered why Kenya Power resorted to removing the polls, despite the fact that he had agreed to pay the monthly electricity bills without fail.

He also accused Kenya Power of disregarding a presidential directive prohibiting the de-installation of existing power connections.

On Friday, January 27, President William Ruto ordered Kenya Power (KPL) to cease disconnecting illegally tapped homes.

During the Affordable Housing Project groundbreaking ceremony in Nairobi’s Shauri Moyo, the President urged Kenya Power managers to focus on improving the last mile connectivity.

“A problem exists at Kenya Power. They decided to turn off power to numerous homes in Nairobi County. Ruto reiterated that Kenya Power and Nairobi County government officials must reach an agreement on how to reconnect the disconnected homes.

The President asked, “How can you penalize a home that uses electricity when you have not asked them to pay for the electricity they are consuming?”
