MP Nelson Koech- Parliament is Gathering Evidence on June 25 Protest Breach

Belgut MP Nelson Koech has revealed that an investigation is underway, although still in its early stages, to identify those responsible for the breach of Parliament that occurred on June 25 amid the nationwide protests.

On Monday, Koech noted that parliamentary security is collaborating with the National Police Service to collect evidence that will help in holding those accountable.

“There has not been any probe by parliament but there is an initiation of a process of evidence gathering by CCTVs and individuals who are capable,” he said speaking on Citizen TV’s Daybreak show.

Ruto attributes the failure of the Finance Bill 2024 to ‘propaganda and rumors,’ while questions arise about whether the legislative building has been reviewing internal evidence to pinpoint security weaknesses.

Koech also voiced strong confidence in President William Ruto’s determination to hold everyone involved in criminal activities during the protests accountable, including law enforcement officers.

“It even includes sending a few officers away if they are found to be culpable so I’m sure it’s a broad-based situation on how he is going to handle it,” he noted.

“My responsibility as an MP is that we invite the responsible agencies to explain to the country what might have happened and what is this that IPOA is requesting from the police that they are not being given.”

Unarmed, peaceful demonstrators were fatally shot outside the parliament buildings during the breach, raising questions about the government’s inaction even after a month has passed.

President Ruto has assured that his administration will carry out a comprehensive investigation and pursue the “criminals” responsible for storming and setting fire to the Parliament, the Judiciary, and Nairobi County Government offices.

He is convinced that the individuals who attacked Parliament aimed specifically at the armory and the mausoleum.
