MP Farah Maalim Faces Resignation Calls After Fiery Speech at Ruto’s Rally
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has signaled plans to expel Dadaab MP Farah Maalim following his contentious remarks on Friday, January 10.
Maalim had joined President William Ruto during his working tour in the North Rift region. While addressing a gathering at one of the presidentโs stopovers, the MP made inflammatory comments while defending Rutoโs administration. He insisted that the president would not leave office anytime soon, contrary to demands from critics.
The remarks sparked outrage online, with many Kenyans condemning the lawmaker. Some critics even linked his behavior to sympathizers of Somalia-based al-Shabaab, calling on Kalonzo to address the matter since Maalim was elected under the Wiper party.
In response, Kalonzo strongly denounced Maalimโs comments and urged him to resign before being expelled. โI condemn Farah Maalim’s remarks in the strongest terms. His actions were disgraceful. He should resign instead of waiting to be kicked out,โ Kalonzo stated.

This isnโt the first time Maalim has faced backlash for his statements. In July 2024, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) summoned him for controversial remarks made during anti-government protests. His statements, delivered in Somali, allegedly risked inciting hatred and division among communities.
A video circulating online revealed Maalim accusing protesters of being wealthy youths from one community and shockingly declaring that he would have executed 5,000 of them daily if he were president.
The NCIC launched an investigation into these remarks, emphasizing their potential to disrupt national harmony.
Maalimโs repeated controversies have placed him at the center of political and public scrutiny, with many questioning his suitability as a public leader.
