MP Elachi to Governor Natembeya: Eat Your Ugali and Stop Insulting Other Leaders
A member of Parliament affiliated with the Jubilee Party has criticized Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya for allegedly planning to show disrespect towards a notable figure from Western Kenya, according to the lawmaker.
Dagoretti MP Beatrice Elachi was discussing the ongoing conflict between National Speaker Moses Wetangula and Mr. Natembeya.
Backers of the two political figures engaged in a confrontation at a funeral in Trans Nzoia County. Ms. Elachi has accused the county governor of being responsible for the altercation.
Addressing the crowd in Lugari, Kakamega County on Sunday, March 31st, Elachi stated that Mr. Natembeya ought to focus on fulfilling his duties to his constituents rather than stirring up animosity against the National Speaker.
The Member of Parliament, formerly the Nairobi County Speaker, employed metaphors to criticize the Trans Nzoia governor, implying that Mr. Natembeya should focus on his affairs rather than engage in verbal attacks.
She was talking about ugali, a cherished dish among the inhabitants of Western Kenya.
“Just eat your ugali and stop the insults,” Elachi said.
The Member of Parliament, aligned with the Jubilee Party within the Kenya Kwanza opposition coalition, suggests that the governor should permit prominent leaders from Western Kenya to foster unity among their constituents rather than engage in internal conflicts.

She mentioned the solidarity between the Rift Valley and Central regions, asserting that the inhabitants strongly support President William Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
MP Elachi urged leaders from the Mulembe Community, predominantly located in the Western region, to embrace growth and development by welcoming opportunities with open arms.
“We should respect the leaders that God has given us. Respect the Speaker (Moses Wetangula). He is the one God gave us. Even if you don’t love him, approach him and advocate for your interests,” she explained.
The recent dispute involving Speaker Wetangula and Governor Natembeya, during which their respective followers clashed at a funeral event in Trans Nzoia County, has received widespread condemnation.
Mr Natembeya has been accused of orchestrating the chaos.
Prof Kithure Kindiki, the Cabinet Secretary for Internal Affairs, delivered a strong message cautioning politicians against instigating disturbances during funeral gatherings.
Politicians have utilized funeral platforms not just for political maneuvering but also to garner support and favor from their constituents.
