MP Demands Speaker Wetangula’s Resignation Over Gachagua Impeachment Saga
Starehe MP Amos Mwango has called for National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula to resign, citing constitutional violations and executive bias.
Mwango claims Wetangula publicly endorsed an unfounded motion against the Deputy President, displaying a clear partisan stance.
He also accuses Wetangula of frequently allowing unconstitutional legislation to pass, seemingly to gain favor with the President.
Mwango alleges that only select Kenya Kwanza MPs are permitted to participate in debates, favoring allies.
The MP further contends that numerous unconstitutional amendments have been passed, with Wetangula at the forefront.
He describes Wetangula as a tool for those undermining the Assembly’s constitutional authority and the people’s sovereignty.

In his letter, Mwango argues that the executive and Parliament should function independently, as each has a distinct electoral mandate.
He emphasizes that the 2010 Constitution reshaped governance in Kenya, establishing separate powers for government branches.
Mwango states that Kenya has shifted to a purely presidential system, where the government is not directly part of Parliament.
In such a system, legislators are not obligated to align with the President’s policies, reflecting their direct mandate from voters.
