Mothers’ Duel: Jowie Irungu’s Mom Proclaims Son’s Innocence Despite Death Sentence; Monica Kimani’s Kin Content

My Son Is Innocent – Jowie Irunguโ€™s Mother Insists After Son Gets Death Sentence

On Wednesday, March 13, Joseph Irungu’s mother conveyed her discontent with the judgment issued by Justice Grace Nzioka, which sentenced her son to death.

Addressing the media beyond the courtroom, Irungu’s mother criticized the verdict, maintaining that her son was not guilty and had been wrongly convicted.

Nevertheless, she radiated assurance that justice would prevail, and her son would be released when the time was right.

During her argument, Irungu’s mother referenced the Bible, expressing her faith that the God she worships would intervene to secure her son’s release from prison.

โ€œI believe my son is innocent, he has not done any wrong and has not killed anyone. I believe there is a God of a second chance,โ€ the mother noted.

โ€œMy son is like Joseph in the bible who suffered but God helped him. He will be released, that is why I still have the strength that my son will be released when the right time comes,โ€ she added.

Irungu’s mother shared her thoughts shortly after the court handed down a death sentence to Joseph Irungu, who was convicted of the murder of Monica Kimani in 2018.

In her ruling, Justice Grace Nzioka mentioned that she took into account three elements while reaching her decision.

She focused on several factors, including how the offense was carried out, the repercussions of the offense, and Jowie’s character.

“I have ordered that the first accused person before this court, Joseph Kuria Irungu alias Jowie shall suffer death as provided for the offence of murder under section 204 of the penal code of Kenya” the judge pronounced.

When describing the details of the murder, Justice Nzioka emphasized that the perpetrator who took Kimani’s life had no intention of allowing the businesswoman even a single minute to survive.

“It was a gruesome murder, horrific and threatening,” Justice Nzioka remarked.

Monica Kimaniโ€™s Family Expresses Satisfaction With Sentence Handed to Jowie

The relatives of the deceased entrepreneur Monica Kimani have spoken out following Justice Grace Nzioka’s decision to sentence Joseph “Jowie” Irungu to death. Jowie was convicted of the murder of their family member.

On Wednesday, the deceased’s brother addressed the media beyond the courtroom, stating that the family was content with the trial’s result. He conveyed his sense of relief, emphasizing the conclusion of a six-year journey seeking justice.

He additionally mentioned that the family was actively engaged in the process of healing, accepting the situation, moving forward with their lives, and seeking ways to reconcile with the recent and poignant loss they are still grappling with emotionally.

โ€œWith everything that has been going on, it has been very difficult. At some point, we wanted to lose hope but we gathered courage and we are here now,โ€ the brother stated.

โ€œWe are satisfied with the judgment and we hope to move forward and find closure.โ€

Herman Omiti, the family lawyer, praised Judge Nzioka for her verdict and highlighted that she provided the rationale behind the convict’s sentence.

โ€œSometimes when the case was ongoing one would think itโ€™s leaning to one side or the other, but as we followed the case, we had faith the right decision would be made,โ€ Omiti stated.

Before pronouncing the sentence, Judge Nzioka emphasized a review analysis, pointing out the impact on different members of Monicah’s family after her passing.

The report mentioned that the mother of the deceased experienced extended periods of depression and had a stroke in the months after her daughter’s passing.

โ€œThe father is reported to have indicated that the extensive media coverage impeded the emotional healing,โ€ Justice Nzioka added.

In contrast, Monica’s younger siblings withdrew from public view and isolated themselves due to the trauma experienced.

On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, Joseph Irungu received a death sentence for the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.
